Hit my mini goal!

Yes!  I am down to 165!  I can’t remember the last time I was that weight since I have been hovering around 170 for a loooooong time!  This week had it’s ups and downs…the mini goal is definitely an up, I set a new one for 159 - going down!  Didn’t get much exercise in this week, just the usual running around with my kids at school.  I did try to really run around a lot when we were outside, it’s cold in NY so that wasn’t much of a problem.  On the down side, it was a bad week for my mom.  Most of the aches and pains are probably going to be attributed to lung cancer since her X-ray shows a mass on her lung.  I almost feel guilty complaining about her health if thats what the diagnosis is going to be.  But 2009 is going to be the healthy year no matter what my cross is to bear.  I pray for strength to get Mom through whatever she will need.  My goal can’t change - I can’t live the life of bad health, aches and pains.  Thank God I quit smoking 22 years ago and my only personal nemesis is weight - this is the year to lose it and keep it off.  Go Bon!

Exercise out of the way….

Ok, exercise out of the way now, I can catch up on what I’ve been doing.  So my New Year resolution for 2009 is to be healthier.  Since I went to see my folks yesterday, my resolution is stronger.  Mom is in bed with all her aches and pains (real or imagined, I think mostly real) and took 10 minutes to get out of bed, weigh herself (?), and then go to the living room to sit down (thank God!) and chat.  Ok, I love Mom but I do NOT want to end up like her!

So for the past few days I have been mostly following Dr. McDougalls plan for a vegan diet.  Diet meaning a way of eating…..I say mostly because I did get a large platter of veggies with a dairy dip, and yes, I have been eating it.  The next day I bought a large container of hummus and have been trying to make the smarter choice.  Went out to dinner on Saturday night with friends - she is a nutritionist so I ALWAYS feel guilty eating around her - and had a large, and I mean LARGE bowl of fusilli pasta with marinara sauce.  It was huge, I was stuffed, and I still brought half of it home with me for Sundays lunch.  I have been watching the water, at least 6-8 glasses….on the treadmill every day but Saturday….and I think it is going to pay off.  I feel great.  Carpe diem!

Must’ve recorded my weight wrong!

Well here it is January 5. Been at the healthy thing for 5 days now. Got on the scale today and I lost 9 lbs? Must’ve really weighed 171 on the first! Needless to say, here it is 5:49am on a work day and I am off to do the treadmill for 1/2 hour! God bless you Dr. McDougall www.drmcdougall.com I feel great!

Welcome to 2009

Well, the first day of 2009 is as good a day to start a healthier lifestyle as any! I am dismayed at the condition of my mother and mother-in-law, as evidenced by our Christmas eve Chinese dinner. We had to move the step stool from one side of the SUV to the other, both walking with canes, can’t breathe after they complete their journey from the house to the car…from the car to the restaurant. That’s not the journey I want to make!

I have just refreshed my McDougall information by re-reading portions of Twelve Days to Healthy Living. I am on my way! Going to go up to the treadmill when I am done…

For breakfast I had apple-cinnamon oatmeal, then an hour later thinking I might still be hungry I made some cream of wheat. I am thinking of all possible rice and veggie combos for lunch. Good luck to me! Go Health!
